By the time I left high school, I had absorbed what distinguishes our country from others; freedom to choose what I would become, and the rule of law. I was ready to serve to pay back for those blessings. But I never imagined that I'd be joining the greatest fraternity in the world.

Executive Director, The ETS Sponsorship Program
Mike joined the ETS Sponsorship Program after a thirty-year Army career. Prior to joining the program, he served as the Commanding General of Train, Advise, and Assist Command, Kandahar, Afghanistan and as Deputy Commanding General of the 10th Mountain Division. Mike holds Master of Science and PhD (ABD) degrees in Political Science and Security Studies from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. mike@etssponsorship.com
How the program grows
Soldier-Sponsor connections have expanded the ETS program across the country. The involvement of county governments has been and is essential. Counties can be Community Integration Coordinators (CIC) themselves and/or can work aside Veteran Service Organizations that become certified as CICs.
The VHA has supported this effort, including the development of the Regional Community Coordinator positions. These are licensed social workers employed by the VA to support Community Integration Coordinators whether Community Integration Coordinators are staffed by local government or by volunteers and/or social service organizations.
